Riders on a passenger train in the San Juan National Forest in southern Colorado captured video of what they say is a Bigfoot. The video has since gone viral on social media. On the one hand, this clearly looks like a guy in a Chewbacca costume. But on the other hand, why would a guy be wandering around in the woods in a remote part of Colorado in a Chewbacca costume?

The incident was captured by passengers who were riding the Narrow Gauge train from Durango to Silverton, CO. A husband and wife spotted the creature and started talking about it. Another passenger pulled out his phone and started recording. Sure enough, there was a hairy figure striding up the side of the mountain.

It then squats down and blends in with the surrounding bushes. Shannon Parker was one of the passengers who spotted the mythical creature while she and her husband were looking for elk on the hillside.

“When we spoke to the conductor on the train, he told us he hasn’t ever seen anything like it before and he himself has experienced unexplainable things while snowshoeing in those mountains,” said Parker.

Bigfoot sightings are extremely common in this part of Colorado, as they are in the Pacific Northwest. Most of the cultures around the world have some sort of Bigfoot or “wild man” phenomenon that many people believe in, despite the lack of one ever being caught or shot by a hunter.

One of the most famous Bigfoot sightings in history was the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, which purported to show a female Bigfoot walking through a northern California forest. Patterson and Gimlin, the two men who filmed the “creature,” maintained that it was a real Bigfoot video for decades. The man who wore the gorilla costume in the video finally admitted it was a hoax in 2005.

A majority of the evidence for Bigfoot has always turned out to be either a hoax, a misidentification, or inconclusive. People often see bears or elk from a distance in thick woods and mistake it for a Bigfoot. Hoaxers have always gotten a thrill from duping gullible people with their videos of Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster or UFOs or whatever.

One thing that stands out about this latest Bigfoot video is that it is remarkably clear. Most UFO videos, for example, are totally junk. The camera is shaky, the footage is grainy, and you can’t see anything, and the people recording the videos always seem to stop recording in the middle of the action. In other words, they behave exactly the opposite of what a normal person would act like if they were filming something that could change the course of human history.

The video has been shared thousands of times now on Twitter/X. Comments on the videos seem to be a mix between true believers and those who think it’s just a guy in a Chewbacca costume walking around in the woods.

What do you think? Is this another hoax, or is it the real deal?
