NPR has published a new article about abortion that is a little more on the nose than you might expect from the pro-killing babies party. The gist of the article is this: If women kill their babies, it gives them more financial freedom in life, it makes them more efficient at slaving away in some grimy cubicle for a man, and it’s great for the economy! But is it any of those things? And do any of the women who get abortions for the sake of their careers actually feel happy and more fulfilled because of the decision?
As most people know, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 in the Dobbs decision. After more than 50 years, the voters in each of the 50 states would finally be allowed to decide how to regulate abortion, instead of having a top-down, one-size-fits-all federal standard. For those who are pro-life and pro-abortion, this should have been a win-win.
Unfortunately, none of that happened. The political left acted as though women were going to be slaughtered by coat hangers in back-alley abortions (something that has never historically happened in America—not even once). Pro-life grifters proclaimed that Donald Trump is “not pro-life enough” and that they would not be voting for him in November, even though Trump is the one Republican president in the last 50 years who actually got Roe v. Wade overturned, which the pro-life grifters had been asking for all along.
The left’s position on abortion as a net boon for the economy was first described by Joe Biden’s unimpressive Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. In 2022, she testified before Congress:
“I believe that eliminating the right of women to make decisions about when and whether to have children would have very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades.”
Right…
If women kill their babies, it will make them more efficient worker bees who can slave away for some man who is not their husband, and it will benefit the economy. Take that, pro-lifers!
Yellen, of course, is an “economist” from the Neo-Keynesian school. Feminism and all the other communist offshoot movements that have destroyed true wealth in Western civilization are the only ways that she is capable of thinking about complex issues.
Of course, it makes a woman’s life better if she eliminates her babies. Just think of how it would have interrupted her salary schedule if she had brought a new life into the world!
NPR went out of its way for its new story on the economics of abortion to find 30 women who find that their lives and careers are much better off because they never allowed their unborn babies to live. Every single one of them claimed that her life was better because she never brought a child into the world. Their stories are narcissistic to the point of psychopathy.
If you don’t have a baby today, then yes, that might put more money into your pocket in the short term. But in the long term, that baby will grow into another productive member of society, pay taxes for their lifetime, and keep civilization going—all while improving the economy in unpredictable ways. Not to mention the fact that the baby kind of has a right to life, doesn’t it? And isn’t that more important than slaving away in some grimy cubicle?
NPR and people like Janet Yellen are incapable of thinking five minutes into the future. You might make more money now—but civilization is going to pay a heavy price for all the people who were denied the opportunity to live.
