President Joe Biden, ever the proud papa, decided to drop a statement earlier this week about his youngest son Hunter’s trial. He lauded Hunter for his “strength” and “resilience in the face of adversity” because, apparently, navigating legal troubles is now a character-building exercise.

Hunter Biden’s trial started this week. He is facing three federal felony charges. What’s the crime? Allegedly lying about drug use on a federal form while purchasing a revolver in 2018. But wait, it gets juicier. The Department of Justice, in a display of what might look suspiciously like political favoritism, tried to hand him a soft plea deal. However, a federal judge stepped in, waved the red flag, and basically said, “Not so fast!”

President Biden, who has consistently signaled his belief in his son’s innocence, issued a carefully worded statement blending the roles of President and father. “As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength,” Biden said.

Despite his official stance of neutrality, the President devoted much of his statement to expressing love and pride for Hunter. Biden took a moment from his presidential duties to play dad-in-chief, proudly declaring that he and Jill are just over the moon about the man their son has become. Clearly, the Bidens have pretty low standards if they are proud of their lying, drug addict, cheating son. This also comes from the same Bidens who only seemed to remember Hunter’s illegitimate daughter when the press decided not to let it slide.

Biden’s public support for his son is noteworthy, even drawing attention from Politico, which described it as a “rare public statement.” In the days leading up to the trial, Joe Biden has been visibly supportive, spending time with Hunter and visiting his daughter-in-law, Hallie Biden, who is set to testify against Hunter. The visit was ostensibly to commemorate the anniversary of Beau Biden’s death.

First Lady Jill Biden, who has had a contentious relationship with Hunter, made an unannounced appearance at the Wilmington courthouse on Monday, underscoring the family’s united front.

White House allies have defended the President’s comments and actions as those of a loving father. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told MSNBC, “President Biden commented as a loving father, as I would hope any loving father would do.”

While the media often portray Joe Biden’s pride in his son as an admirable quality, they frequently overlook how the President has seemingly enabled Hunter’s controversial behavior. This includes funding Hunter’s involvement with Russia-linked escorts and issuing a statement supporting Hunter’s relationship with his late brother Beau Biden’s widow.

More significantly, when allegations of Biden family corruption emerged before the 2020 election, Joe Biden denied that Hunter had engaged in business with China, despite evidence to the contrary. The President’s then-campaign adviser, Antony Blinken, organized a group of intelligence officials to dismiss the news as Russian disinformation, aiming to protect both Hunter and Joe Biden’s electoral prospects.

Additionally, a whistleblower has claimed that Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys prevented their offices in California and D.C. from bringing criminal tax charges against Hunter. Meanwhile, Joe Biden has been seen spending time with Hunter at Camp David, further demonstrating his unwavering support.

Whenever scandals involving Hunter arise, President Biden is quick to align himself with his son, even at the cost of family dynamics, as seen when he distanced himself from his preschool-aged granddaughter. Hunter’s issues often become the President’s problems, and Joe Biden has consistently worked to shield his son, even when national security concerns are at stake.

President Biden’s actions seem to signal a warning to jurors and prosecutors that he will not tolerate further damage to the Biden family’s reputation.
