APPLAUSE! Trump Signs Bill Making Animal Cruelty a Federal Crime

Animals have their day thanks to President Trump!

On Monday, the President signed a new law making animal cruelty a federal crime. The bipartisan initiative called The Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (PACT), bans the intentional crushing, burning, drowning, suffocating, impalement or other serious harm to “living non-human mammals, birds, reptiles, or amphibians.”

The new law also bans “animal crush videos,” meaning any photograph, motion picture film, video or digital recording or electronic image that depicts animal cruelty.

Violations of this new law includes a fine, an up to 7 year prison term or both.

The new law will also help prosecute animal cruelty cases all over the United States. Even though states had animal cruelty laws, it was difficult to prosecute cases across state lines.

Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) who was one of the who was one of the Senators who introduced the measure in the House said,

“I’m grateful to see the PACT Act finally signed into law. The barbaric torture of animals has no place in a civilized society and should be a crime — and thanks to this new law, now it is. Senator Toomey and I worked together for years to ensure that this kind of despicable torture of animals is forbidden for good.”

Kitty Block who is the President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States said in a statement,

“PACT makes a statement about American values. Animals are deserving of protection at the highest level.”

Thank you Mr. President!
