Political Sabotage: Dems Strip Trump’s Security in Time for Violence

Well, what do you know? Former President Donald Trump was almost taken out at a rally in Pennsylvania not long after House Democrats floated the idea of stripping him of his Secret Service protection. You can’t make this stuff up.

Democrat Bennie Thompson, the top dog on the House Committee on Homeland Security, rolled out the absurdly named Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable (DISGRACED) Former Protectees Act back in April. You’d think they could spend their time on something more practical, but here we are. Reps. Yvette D. Clarke, Troy A. Carter Sr., Frederica Wilson, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Jasmine Crockett, Joyce Beatty, Barbara Lee, and Steve Cohen decided to jump on this ridiculous bandwagon and co-sponsor the bill.

Thompson claims that Trump’s whopping 91 felony charges have created a crisis so dire that Congress has to step in and make sure the Secret Service doesn’t interfere with the justice process. Yeah, right. The DISGRACED Former Protectees Act would yank away Secret Service protection for anyone sentenced after a felony conviction. Because, you know, that’s what keeps America safe.

After the assassination attempt, Thompson tweeted how relieved he was that Trump was safe and thanked law enforcement for their quick response. Oh, the irony. This is the same guy who wanted to ditch Trump’s protection if he got convicted. He called the idea of Trump in prison “regrettable.” He clarified that he didn’t want any “special treatment” for the former president.

It’s funny how he didn’t respond to requests for comment from various media outlets about how his grand DISGRACED Act looks in light of the recent attempt on Trump’s life. Maybe he’s too busy thinking up more acronyms.

The bill is currently stuck in the House Committee on the Judiciary, waiting for someone to take it seriously. Meanwhile, Trump racked up 34 felony convictions in a trial that some call a political witch hunt. Sentencing is set for September, and jail time is on the table.

A source familiar with Trump’s security details told a media publication that they’d been asking for more protection for weeks. But Biden’s DHS has been giving them the cold shoulder. I guess it’s not a priority when it comes to Trump’s safety.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also been playing hardball with Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. They’ve denied him Secret Service protection multiple times. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says it’s “not warranted at this time.” Yeah, sure. Kennedy’s attorney, Aaron Siri, fired a letter accusing DHS of playing politics with his client’s safety. He called their refusals “contemptible.” It’s almost like protecting political figures is a game to these people.

So here we are, with Democrats pushing to strip a former president of his security detail while he’s dodging bullets at rallies. It’s a dangerous precedent, making you wonder about Washington’s priorities. Are they about protecting the people or just out for political revenge? With Trump’s sentencing around the corner and DHS’s refusal to protect candidates like Kennedy, it’s clear the games in D.C. are only getting more perilous.

While law enforcement’s quick response in Pennsylvania was commendable, the political maneuvering behind the scenes is anything but. Let’s hope common sense prevails before another close call becomes a tragedy. It’s time for Washington to focus on real issues, not petty political vendettas.
