A growing legal firestorm is closing in on some of the most powerful figures from the Obama administration, as the Department of Justice has launched a federal grand jury investigation into their alleged role in pushing the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative. According to the New York Post, former intelligence officials including James Clapper, John Brennan, and James Comey are all under scrutiny.

The investigation centers on whether these former Obama appointees conspired to use U.S. intelligence agencies to spread disinformation about Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election—accusations that now carry the possibility of criminal charges.

Leading the charge against the Obama-era officials is current National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, who in July claimed that evidence shows Barack Obama himself coordinated with U.S. intelligence to falsely tie Trump to Russia in a deliberate attempt to swing the election.

“There was a treasonous conspiracy in 2016 committed by officials at the highest level of government,” Gabbard said. She accused the Obama administration of orchestrating “a years-long coup” designed to sabotage Trump’s presidency and overturn the will of the voters.

Gabbard didn’t hold back, calling it “an egregious abuse of power and blatant rejection of our Constitution.” According to her, the Obama administration “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to create the phony Trump-Russia link that fueled years of media hysteria and multiple investigations—none of which ever proved collusion.

While the investigation is ongoing, one potential roadblock is the statute of limitations for certain federal offenses. However, sources say prosecutors are examining whether any conspiracy or obstruction continued past the statute window, which could keep legal options open.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) also weighed in, suggesting Congress may issue a subpoena for former President Obama himself. “I think we have a responsibility to follow the truth, where it leads,” Johnson told Real America’s Voice. He called the 2016 interference effort “a partisan political plot to take down their foe in the other party.”

Johnson said Republicans in Congress are determined to do “the opposite” of what the Democrats did, and focus on “the rule of law” while exposing what really happened behind the scenes during the final months of the Obama presidency.

The implications of this probe are enormous. For years, critics of the Deep State have insisted that top intelligence officials conspired to take down Trump from the moment he entered the political scene. With Brennan, Clapper, and Comey now under the DOJ’s microscope—and potential charges looming—that theory is beginning to look more like fact.

This is not the first time these officials have faced scrutiny. Comey was fired by Trump in 2017 after his handling of the Clinton email investigation and the FISA warrant debacle involving Carter Page. Brennan and Clapper both played central roles in briefing Obama and leaking selective intelligence to media outlets. All three testified publicly in ways that seemed to mislead Congress and the public.

Until recently, they had largely escaped legal consequences. But with a new administration in the White House, and Donald Trump once again leading the country, the tables have turned.

While some legal experts warn that prosecuting former cabinet officials is no small task, the grand jury’s formation signals that this is no political stunt—it’s a serious inquiry with serious implications.

In the end, the American people may finally get the answers they’ve waited nearly a decade for: who lied, who leaked, and who tried to take down a duly elected president. And this time, the consequences could go all the way to the top.
