Why is it that migrants think that they can just stroll into the U.S. and gain citizenship? Oh, right…the Biden administration has essentially established an open borders system.
Typically, Texas has to deal with Mexicans and Central Americans at the southern border. Only, now, there’s another type of migrant looking to get in – Haitians.
Border officials in Del Rio, Texas have been overwhelmed by the thousands of Haitians looking to enter the U.S. Some officials have estimated the number to be 9,0000 or more. Many are waiting under the Del Rio International Bridge so that they can be processed.
With the conditions in Haiti being what they are, it’s estimated that there will be thousands more showing up at the border in the coming weeks.
Texas is dealing with the added migrants the best way that it can. However, they’re dealing with an administration that thinks that this level of migration is acceptable. And it’s no wonder that Haitians went through Mexico. After all, if Central Americans can get in this way, they should be able to do the same, right?
Border Patrol agents have been deployed to address the situation. With the level of migrants showing up, however, there is a concern about handling them in a safe and humane way. They’re being told to wait under the bridge so that they can be taken into custody – and so that they can get out of the brutal heat.
They’re sleeping in the dirt. There are triple-digit temperatures. The conditions are beyond overcrowded.
Governor Greg Abbott has made it abundantly clear how he feels about the situation. “The Biden administration is in complete disarray and is handling the border crisis as badly as the evacuation from Afghanistan.” There’s not much that he can do, either. Texas has been spread thin because of the ongoing issues at the southern border. Abbott has already deployed the National Guard of Texas along with a number of state law enforcement officers.
Since the federal officials are telling the Haitians to stay under the bridge until they can be processed, it’s a complete and utter disaster. They don’t have access to clean water or food. Further, there are limited portable bathrooms. Bruno Lozano, the mayor of Del Rio, has expressed concern because there are 9,000 Haitians who are “really anxious and stressed.” It’s a huge burden on his small town of only 35,000 Texans. The mayor has asked federal officials to provide assistance – yet the Biden administration really isn’t bothering with a long-term solution.
Harris is still likely studying the root causes – even though we know what’s going on in Haiti. Their country has been in turmoil since the assassination of its president followed by a series of earthquakes.
The Biden administration has to figure out what they’re going to do. The U.S. cannot simply accept everyone – not when we’ve already taken in so many Mexicans, Central Americans, and even Afghans.
While President Biden may take a “migrant-first” approach, most Americans would like to know that there is at least some concern for Americans. How much further does the economy have to fall? How much more crime has to be created by migrants before Biden realizes that his approach is all wrong?
As more and more Haitians pour in through the southern border, we look for answers and get silence.
