When Bernie Sanders got a call from a female who identified herself as Greta Thunberg, the teenage Swedish climate change activist, the obvious question that passed through his mind was, “How did she get this number?”
However, since Thunberg would prove to be a powerful ally in Bernie’s quest for the presidency of the United States, Sanders took the call. Fox News describes the gist of the conversation.
The conversation starts with “Greta” and a male who identified himself as her father offering to lend their support for Bernie’s campaign for the presidency. At this point, Bernie must have been intrigued.
He has been running, in part, on the Green New Deal, which would fit in nicely with Greta’s claim that something must be done about the climate change crisis “right now” or she will not live much past 30.
Greta Thunberg has already visited a number of celebrities, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and former President Barack Obama. The 17-year-old has a certain amount of star power that might prove to be an asset to the campaign, especially for younger voters.
Bernie, therefore, thanked the girl on the other end of the line for her support and suggested that they make a joint appearance the next time she planned to be in the United States.
Unmentioned is the fact that, unlike Greta, Bernie is not shy of using private aircraft to go from campaign stop to campaign stop, preaching a plan that would, among a lot of other things, end private air travel.
Still, this proposal seemed to be fine with the woman identifying herself as Greta Thunberg. She even had the idea of recording a hip hop song with Sanders, Billie Eilish, and Kayne West. Bernie, if he was paying attention, must have started to get suspicious at this point. He doesn’t seem to be to sort with a great singing voice. Besides, Kayne is well known to be a big supporter of President Donald Trump.
Next on the agenda was a proposal by “Greta” that she visit Russia, bringing to the benighted people of the former Soviet Union her gospel o fighting climate change through economic privation.
After all, if the Russian people know anything, it’s how to live with privation. Since Bernie had actually honeymooned in the old Soviet Union, might he have any advice?
At this point, Bernie Sanders gives the woman who identified herself as Greta Thunberg a solemn warning. Russia President Vladimir Putin is a very bad man.
His country is very dependent on the export of oil and gas. She should tread very carefully lest she be used for political purpose, or something worse might happen.
Then the woman on the other end told Bernie Sanders since he had been recruited by the KGB during his 1988 honeymoon to the Soviet Union as a sleeper agent, it was time that he be activated to fulfill his purpose of bringing communism to the United States by being elected president.
At this point, confirmed that he was being pranked, Bernie Sanders hung up.
Hear it for yourself:
The woman on the other end of the line was not, in fact, Greta Thunberg, but rather a woman working for Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, a pair of Russian radio personalities who make it a habit of calling up politicians and pranking them.
“The pair has pranked other U.S. politicians in recent months. They fooled Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., last year into thinking he was speaking with Turkey’s defense minister. Graham relayed President Trump’s interest in economic and military cooperation between the U.S. and Turkey. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was a victim in 2018 when the radio shock jocks posed as Andriy Parubiy, the former speaker of Ukraine’s parliament. During the call, Schiff said he would be willing to accept information damaging to Trump. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., was also tricked by the pranksters when she was tricked into thinking she speaking with Thunberg and that she had dirt on Trump.”
So far, the Bernie Sanders for President campaign has declined to comment on the conversation. It is just as well. Bernie has been criticized for taking his new bride to romantic Russia and then praising the old Soviet Union at a time that even General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev was trying to reform the communist system in that country.
For that – and other things – Bernie has been accused of being a communist by people as diverse as Democratic operative James Carville and President Donald Trump. Bernie has denied the allegation, claiming to be a “democratic socialist” thank you very much.
