It seems like the Democrats are determined to lose the next national election by running an unpopular San Francisco progressive. They think they can package Kamala Harris, the queen of flip-flops, as the perfect candidate for voters who don’t care about actual issues. It’s almost like a bad joke, but unfortunately, it’s real.
The New York Times reports that Vice President Kamala Harris has magically distanced herself from every radical position she took during her embarrassing 2020 presidential run. Now, she’s banking on child sacrifice and identity politics to win over the masses. Too bad for her, the internet never forgets. Her past progressive rants are making the rounds on social media, much to the delight of Republicans.
Republican Dave McCormick, challenging Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, nailed it with a montage of Harris’s wild ideas. We’re talking about open borders, mandatory gun buybacks, the Green New Deal, banning fracking, single-payer health insurance, and even giving voting rights to violent felons. Let’s not forget her plan to reduce red meat consumption in the name of climate change.
Republican strategists, like Brad Todd, are practically drooling over the opportunity to showcase Harris’s past. “The archive is deep,” Todd said. “We will run out of time before we run out of video clips of Kamala Harris saying wacky California liberal things. I’m just not sure that the rest of this campaign includes much besides that.” The Democrats’ response? Denial and contempt for voters.
First, Harris claims she no longer supports those extreme positions. For the sake of fooling the American people, she’s pretending she never backed open borders, gun buybacks, or single-payer healthcare. Now, she’s positioning herself as a candidate with “deep ties to law enforcement.” So much for felons’ voting rights.
Harris also announced she no longer supports a fracking ban. Matt Bennett of the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way tries to spin this as Harris being pragmatic. “She has not changed her principles,” Bennett claims. “She still thinks climate change is an existential threat — she just doesn’t think the Green New Deal is the way to address it.” Sure, because changing every stance she once held isn’t a change in principles.
The second part of the Democrats’ brilliant strategy? Focus on voters who care about child sacrifice and identity politics—the Times spent eight paragraphs on Harris’s abortion views. She loves abortion so much she sees it as a civil rights issue needing federal protection.
Above all, her campaign believes voters will be thrilled to elect a woman of color. Sue Dvorsky, former Iowa Democratic Party chairwoman, thinks voters should ignore complex issues and vote for candidates who make them feel good. “I don’t know that the policy stuff is what people were talking about — it was all biography,” Dvorsky said. So, policy doesn’t matter, just vibes.
And then there’s MSNBC’s Joy Reid, who thinks black voters should support Harris to feel connected to the culture. Seriously?
Republicans will keep rolling those clips of Harris’s crazy California ideas about open borders, gun control, climate, and crime. Democrats will counter by swearing she doesn’t believe those things anymore. Then they’ll try to win over both TikTok fans and rich liberals by telling them to “expect a thing” from Harris.
And they think this will work? Good luck with that. Let’s wait and see how this strategy pans out after they nominate he
