CA Governor Signs Bill Banning Trump from the 2020 Ballot

If you ever needed proof that the Democrats are terrified of going up against President Donald Trump in the 2020 elections, this is it. They have been trying for years to oust the man from his position of leadership, calling his racist, blaming him for mass shootings and natural disasters, as well as accusing him of lying and cheating on several occasions.

And yet every attempt to impeach him has backfired miserably. Not only have they not worked to discredit Trump, but they have succeeded in showing the world just how obsessed the Democrats are when it comes to hating Trump.

However, recent actions are showing a new all-time low for Democrats, proving they will stop at nothing to not have to face the President.

The Governor of California, Democrat Gavin Newsom, has just signed a bill that would ban Trump’s name from even being on the 2020 ballot in the state of California.

This is low, even for Democrats.

The bill requires all Presidential candidates to submit at least five years of income tax filings if their name is to appear on the ballot for the state’s primary elections. The law, which went into effect on July 30, is a direct stab at the president who has not released his tax returns since 2015 after he announced his campaign to run for president.

It will force the president to choose between releasing his tax returns, which he has been vehemently opposed to in the past, or risk that California’s 173 delegates will select one of his Republican challengers.

Gov. Newsom said in a statement about the bill, “As one of the largest economies in the world and home to one in nine Americans eligible to vote, California has a special responsibility to require this information of presidential and gubernatorial candidates.”

“These are extraordinary times and states have a legal and moral duty to do everything in their power to ensure leaders seeking the highest offices meet minimal standards, and to restore public confidence. The disclosure required by this bill will shed light on conflicts of interest, self-dealing, or influence from domestic and foreign business interest,” he continued.

However, it may not be entirely legal to implement this type of law. And already some issues are being pointed out. In particular, it has been noted that the “Constitution is clear on the qualifications for someone to serve as president and states cannot add additional requirements on their own,” as communications director of Trump’s reelection campaign Tim Murtaugh says.

In addition, the bill is a clear attempt at the state of California telling its political parties who they can and cannot vote for in a primary election, which is a direct violation of the First Amendment right of association.

The bill also does little for the people of California. As a governor, Newsom’s job is to make laws and legislations that benefit his people and their lives. Instead, this law blatantly rigs the 2020 election in favor of the Democrats.

And California is not the only state to have thought of such an idea to keep Trump from winning fairly.

In March of this year, the state of Washington passed a similar law and sent it on to the state House for consideration. Democratic Senator Patty Kuderer, who sponsored the bill, said, “Although releasing tax returns has been the norm for about the last 40 years in presidential elections, unfortunately, we’ve seen that norm broken.”

But Republicans lawmakers of the state are worried that the law is unlawfully enacting rules on a “federal election.” Republican Senator Hans Zeiger says, “We’re on really risky ground when we’re trying to place conditions on a federal election.”

New Jersey’s state senate has also passed a comparable measure.

Let’s call it what it is, a partisan political ploy to keep Trump from winning. And while such actions are not uncommon for the Democratic party, especially as of late, isn’t it time they started focusing on something else? Like actually making our country a better place to live, solving the problems that arise, and forgetting this obsession of blaming Trump for every little thing that goes wrong.

This running around behind closed doors to conspire against Trump is getting a little out of hand. If you genuinely don’t want him in office for another term than run against him fairly. You just might find that honesty and fairness are virtues worth having.
