Every once in a while, a great storm hits our nation’s shores and makes the whole country stop and take notice. It happened sixteen years ago with Katrina, and now, thanks to Hurricane Ida, it seems to have happened again.
Naturally, many comparisons are being drawn between the two devastating storms, including where landfall hit and the amount of damage they caused. And just as naturally, comparisons in how that damage is being handled, as well as leadership tactics, are being made.
And unfortunately, it seems Democratic President Joe Biden hasn’t learned a thing from his predecessors or even his own past mistakes. If he had, he likely wouldn’t have just brought race into the equation, much like Kanye West accused then-President George W. Bush of doing with Katrina.
Now, to be clear, this isn’t really all that different from any number of Joe Biden-isms made over the last few years that include racial disparities and jabs.
You know, things like when he said, “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” Or when he told America, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.” Or what about when he said, way back in 2006, “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent?”
Then, of course, there is also the time he praised himself for working with known segregationists like former Mississippi Senator James Eastland to institute anti-busing legislation in the 1970s. Hell, he even praised the segregationist himself, saying, “He never called me ‘boy.’ He always called me ‘son.’” As if that was some great accomplishment.
But it seems Biden can’t say the same thing about himself.
On Monday, he called one of the highest-ranking black men in Washington and one of his own senior officials “a boy” during a news conference with FEMA.
The conference was obviously held to discuss the aftermath of hurricane Ida and how it would be handled. Biden took all of less than 30 seconds to make the whole situation an utter mess.
He is reported to have said, “I’m here, uh, uh, eh, the FEMA’s director’s on, uh, uh, FEMA Director Criswell, she’s on. And I’m here with, uh, my senior advisor and a boy who knows Louisiana very, very well, man, and New Orleans, Cedric Richmond.”
If his name sounds familiar at all, Richmond has been a long-time politician, serving the greater New Orleans area for decades, including ten years as the city’s voice in the House of Representatives, before taking his current position working for Biden. He is also black and 47 years old.
As The New York Times reported shortly after the 2020 election and Richmond’s appointment shortly afterward, he is “poised to become one of the highest-ranking Black officials in the Biden administration.” In addition, they said he “maintains an extensive political network and is know for delivering candid advice.”
No doubt some of that advice was given to Biden just before entering into this news conference, likely mentioning the need to be on his best behavior as this is a tricky situation with all of the comparisons, and therefore, the public doesn’t need any more reasons to question his authority or leadership abilities, particularly after the recent and disastrous abandonment of Afghanistan.
And what does Biden do?
He comes right out of the gate not only not able to put together a coherent sentence but also including a racial epithet he had to know would cause an uproar. After all, we’ve already established, the democrat leader knows all too well the meaning of ‘boy’ when referring to anyone over age 13 and of African American descent.
As several Twitter uses pointed out, the comment was extremely “rude” and “condescending,” as well as completely “RACIST.”
Of course, the media seems to have barely noticed. Much like all of his other racist comments and thought patterns, Biden’s most recent one has been, once again, swept under the rug and ignored.
You can be sure the same could not be said if someone like former President Donald Trump uttered such atrocities. But, as usual, what’s good for the goose is not the same for the gander…
